Job Description

Under the general direction and supervision of the Administrative Director, Infrastructure, and the Chief Information Officer, the Network Security Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of secure network architectures that protect organizational systems, applications, and data. This full-time, regular, on-site position ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of enterprise infrastructure by applying modern cybersecurity principles, proactive monitoring, and risk mitigation strategies.
This individual works closely with Infrastructure, Client Services, and Enterprise Systems teams to integrate security best practices across all platforms. The Network Security Engineer leads efforts in threat detection, vulnerability management, incident response, and continuous improvement of the organization’s security posture while aligning with industry frameworks and compliance requirements.

Essential Functions

  1. Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures
  2. Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity and respond to security events
  3. Lead and support incident response, including investigation, containment, and recovery
  4. Enforce security policies, standards, and best practices across network infrastructure
  5. Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks
  6. Maintain and monitor network firewalls and other network security software and hardware tools, including anti-virus, intrusion detection, network access control, data loss prevention, and similar tools.
  7. Cooperate with various departments to ensure compliance with applicable data privacy regulations, including FERPA and HIPAA
  8. Automate repetitive processes with Windows PowerShell and other scripting languages.
  9. Monitor and maintain server operating systems. Ensure applicable security patches are installed. Ensure software is updated to stay within supported versions.
  10. Maintain essential network services, including the DHS, DHCP, and Domain Controller Services.
  11. Coordinate with departments such as Human Resources and Payroll to facilitate a dynamic process for delegating and reviewing accounts and access.
  12. Participate in continuing education to understand current trends and threats in the field of computer networking and security. Ongoing training, certifications, and educational opportunities are encouraged.
  13. Ensure secure configuration and patching of network devices (switches, routers, firewalls)
  14. Document network security designs, procedures, and incident reports
  15. Manage and tune security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, and network access control (NAC)
  16. Work closely with Information Security Analyst(s) to develop and enforce security policies, respond to security events, provide training, and perform other similar functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree* (A.A.S.) from a two-year college or technical school with emphasis in electronics, computer science, computer networking, information security, or a related field.
  2. Three (3) years of work experience in computer networking, information security, or a related field.

*Two (2) years of post-secondary education with emphasis in computer networks, cyber security, or related skills,  PLUS one (1) additional year of work experience servicing and maintaining a computer LAN/WAN network system, may be substituted for an associate’s degree.
