Job Description

Hotel Reynard is a small independent tavern and hotel in Troutdale, Oregon: an eight-room inn above a restaurant and bar. The restaurant is the center of the house. We are building a place that feels handsome, comfortable, and well kept, with steady service, a strong bar, and rooms that are tidy, cozy, and thoughtfully put together.

We are hiring a General Manager to lead front-of-house operations, build the team, and set the daily standards that make the whole place work. The hotel side is intentionally small and designed to run smoothly with clear systems and a calm, capable team.

The Role

You will own the rhythm and readiness of the house: hiring and training, service standards, reservations flow, and the daily operating cadence of the tavern. You will also oversee the guest flow for the eight rooms. including pre-arrival communication, arrival support, and a small housekeeping program, so the stay feels as well tended as the dining experience.

This is a small independent operation. The work is visible. The right person leads with judgment, follow-through, and clear expectations; warm with guests, direct with standards, steady under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead FOH operations: service standards, hospitality cadence, reservations flow, and bar/host execution
• Hire, train, schedule, and lead the FOH team
• Drive opening readiness: checklists, vendor coordination, training plans, and pre-opening events
• Coordinate closely with the Chef de Cuisine on pacing, execution, and service rhythm
• Maintain tight controls on labor, service consistency, and guest experience
• Coordinate hotel guest flow and ensure pre-arrival communication standards are met
• Support a small housekeeping program focused on training and standards
• Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation with ownership/leadership
• Ensure compliance standards are met

Systems and Tools

• Toast POS with connected operations workflows
• OpenTable for reservations; scheduling tools as part of the FOH system
• Clear SOPs and documented standards; “building reporting” is not required

• Comfortable running a quality-focused tavern without stiffness or theater
• Ability to implement systems, train teams, and maintain consistency under real-world constraints
• Professional communication and calm confidence in guest-facing situations
