Job Description and Duties

Under supervision of the Program and Project Supervisor of the Standards Tools Development Unit of the Efficiency Division, the incumbent is responsible for work of average difficulty in a wide variety of consultative and analytical energy assignments in the field of project management of software development and maintenance, technical support, and engagement with interested parties. This Unit has primary responsibility of developing, enhancing, and maintaining software tools and compliance manuals in support of the California Energy Code and statewide building decarbonization policies.

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance.  This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.

Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be located in California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, trends, and terminology of the California Building Energy Efficiency Standards and energy programs.
  • Knowledge of energy modeling principles, techniques, and building simulation software.
  • Knowledge of or experience with whole building simulation program(s) and California building energy compliance software (CBECC) for modeling single-family, nonresidential, and multifamily projects.
  • Ability to reason logically and creatively and utilize a variety of analytical techniques to proactively solve problems, identify, and assess alternatives.
  • Willingness as a learner to do routine or detailed work in order to learn the practical application of energy efficiency principles.
  • Flexibility, willingness, and ability to accept increasing responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
